UVU Students Enjoying time in Hollywood
After a near perfect performance last week at the Cha-Cha, they’re hoping to Samba their way to a win, as the best college team on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.
According to Tara Boyd, the team’s choreographer, “They had two days to rehearse. And they worked really hard. I think they’re going to pull it off.”
But first, the team, sporting their UVU jackets with pride, took a short reprieve during their trip to Los Angeles, grabbing some lunch at the famous Farmer’s Market.
For these ten students, being in Hollywood is a long way from Orem, Utah.
McCall Tycksen, one of the UVU Dancers said, “It is so fun, this is the experience of a lifetime. I just feel like I’m famous, like I’m a movie star and you get all of these awesome treats, get to do my hair, you know, get my hair done, my makeup done, so it’s just so much fun.”
But the coach knows there’s more than just the moves you see on TV being judged. Here in Los Angeles, there’s so much going on behind the scenes.
The team went to an hours-long rehearsal today. And even before that, were practicing their fancy footwork in the parking lot of the Farmer’s Daughter Hotel.
Coach Scott Asbell says he knows the attention can be daunting. But then again, these aren’t your normal college kids.
“How do you keep them from being too nervous before they go on stage? Familiar surroundings, keeping them together. They’re used to each other.”
So, the big day is tomorrow. Not only will the UVU Dance Team compete against Purdue University. They’ll also find out which team will come out on top.
